Studies in the article show that both GLP-1 and TRT caused increases in testosterone levels for men. While the greater testosterone increase induced by TRT was followed by a decline in sperm quality and count, GLP-1 improved sperm quality alongside increases in testosterone levels (though lower than with TRT).

     Weight loss could increase testosterone because fat cells contain high levels of an enzyme that changes testosterone into another hormone. Other metabolic changes and the increased inflammation caused by obesity also affect testosterone production. Weight loss would lessen the negative effects of excessive fat on testosterone production by reducing the factors that affect it.

The article does not have evidence pointing towards a direct effect of GLP-1 on testosterone levels, but includes observations proving an increase in sperm quality. It is too early to assert that GLP-1 has a direct effect on testosterone production, however, because having a high count of healthy sperm doesn’t necessarily indicate high testosterone levels. Although testosterone plays a crucial role in sperm production, sperm quality is not solely determined by testosterone levels. 


Current evidence suggests GLP-1 has a considerable positive effect on sperm quality compared to TRT, which typically decreases the number and quality of the sperm. However, the evidence is not sufficient to assume that GLP-1 has a direct positive effect on testosterone production. The increase in testosterone production could be attributed to the weight loss caused by GLP-1, not the drug itself.
